This beautiful enamel pendant features a guardian angel holding a flower and looking down from heaven. Set in silver plate, approximately 2.5” in length.
Russian enameling dates back to the late 1100's, where colored enamels were considered to be the most expensive and beautiful of items. Rostov enamels begin with a copper plate covered with white enamel powder. Then successive layers of enamel pigments are applied and fired in a kiln to "paint" the piece.
